If you already play Flamenco or come from another guitar style, these lessons will help you refine your technique, deepen your compás, broaden your repertoire, and unlock the musical nuances that make Flamenco feel authentic. Together, we’ll focus on the details that elevate your playing while reinforcing the foundations that keep everything solid.
Whether your goal is expanding your solo repertoire, mastering specific palos, or developing advanced accompaniment skills for cante and baile, you’ll receive a personalized plan with clear priorities and focused feedback — so your practice becomes more efficient, inspiring, and productive.

Welcome to Flamenco Path — a place designed for serious guitarists who want personal guidance, refined technique, and deeper artistry.
With more than 30 years performing professionally in Madrid’s top tablaos and international theaters — and 20 years teaching both privately and at the university level — Calvin Hazen brings an unmatched level of real-world experience to advanced players.
Calvin has performed alongside many of Flamenco’s most celebrated artists, recorded on Platinum-selling and Grammy-nominated albums, and appeared on national television. His teaching approach blends the clarity of a structured method with the nuance, subtleties, and performance insights that only come from decades on stage.
For intermediate and advanced students, this means:
-targeted improvements to elevate your playing
-personalized repertoire selection
-refined compás and phrasing
-advanced right-hand mechanics
-higher-level musical interpretation
— all delivered through a method that’s rigorous yet always practical and musical.

Lessons are designed to meet you at your level — whether you’re advanced or in the intermediate zone — and help you progress with clarity, purpose, and efficiency.
Every session is adapted to your strengths and needs: repertoire, technique, speed, compás, falseta construction, accompaniment, modern techniques, composition — whatever will move you forward fastest.
We identify subtle technical gaps or habits that hold you back and refine them with targeted, musical solutions — never pages of mechanical drills.
If speed or clarity is a goal, you’ll work from proper mechanics outward, focusing on relaxation, efficiency, and control. Results come from smart technique, not brute repetition.
If you're coming from another style, connect what you already know to flamenco techniques and compás, so you can progress without confusion or frustration.
Whether you want to polish your sound, expand repertoire, develop greater speed, learn skills for accompanying cante and baile, or simply play with more confidence and understanding, you’ll receive detailed instruction and highly personalized guidance.

The introductory demo session will be aimed at discussing your background, what you've studied, and what your goals are. We'll work on some techniques and rhythm patterns to help us make an assessment of where you're at and how best we can assist you in moving forward.
No two players are the same. Whether you’re focused on repertoire, technical prowess and speed, compás, or accompaniment, we’ll shape the material around where you are and where you want to go.
We don’t just pile on endless scales and exercises. Instead, we create focused plans that get to the heart of the technique — refining mechanics, efficiency, and expression so you can see results in your actual playing.
Intermediate or advanced, every player has sticking points. These classes are designed to identify and address those challenges directly, with clear explanations, targeted exercises, and practical application that gets you unstuck.
Rather than memorizing countless falsetas, you’ll gain a clear understanding of the structures behind each palo. This lets you not only expand your repertoire logically but also adapt, and create your own falsetas and, eventually, your own style.
If your goal is to develop your skills accompanying singers and dancers, you’ll benefit from Calvin’s years of experience in Madrid’s tablaos. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of cante and baile accompaniment — compás, escobillas, llamadas, and falsetas that are appropriate for that role — and how to embody that role with authenticity and aire.
One of the biggest differences between learning on your own and learning with a qualified teacher is the quality of feedback. Every student develops unique habits and tendencies — some helpful, some holding them back. In lessons, you’ll receive precise, actionable guidance tailored to your playing, so that small adjustments have a big impact. This ensures that every practice session is efficient, productive, and directly moves you toward your personal goals.
